Code of Conduct

Mercia Minds is a community initiative from Mercia AI, built to help people in Coventry and the wider Mercian region understand and explore the world of artificial intelligence, together.

We believe everyone should feel welcome, safe, and respected, regardless of experience level, background, or identity. This Code of Conduct outlines what behaviour we expect at our events, and what we won’t tolerate.

What We Expect

We ask all attendees, speakers, volunteers, and organisers to:
 

• Be respectful of others’ ideas, experiences, and questions -  no matter their knowledge level.

• Practice active listening – let others speak and don’t dominate discussions.

• Assume good intent but take responsibility for your words and actions.

• Help us create a space that encourages curiosity, inclusion, and kindness.

• Speak up if something doesn’t feel right – for yourself or someone else.
   

What’s Not Allowed

• Discrimination or harassment of any kind - including based on race, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or experience level.

• Disruptive, aggressive, or dismissive behaviour, including ‘AI elitism’ or “techsplaining.”

• Unwanted promotion or sales pitches – Mercia Minds is for learning and community, not hard selling.

• Filming or photography of others without their clear consent.

• Any behaviour that puts others at risk or causes discomfort.
   

If Something Happens

If you experience or witness behaviour that concerns you:

• Please speak to the event organiser (Chris Howell) during the session.

• Or email: contact@merciaai.com after the event. All concerns will be handled with care and discretion.
   

Anyone found in breach of this code may be asked to leave the event, and in serious cases may be barred from future events.
